Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to inform you that the 16th International Congress of Turkish Art will be held from October 3 to October 5 2019 in Ankara, at the Hacettepe University. It is an honor for us to organize it in Ankara, where the first Congress took place in October 1959, initiated by late Prof. Dr. Suut Kemal Yetkin, who was also the founder of the Art History Department at the Hacettepe University. Below, you will find the research fields and themes (grouped under four headings), that were chosen by the International and National Committee members to be discussed by the participants. The topics follow the traditional fields of the previous congresses, except for a new section specifically devoted to Ankara and Turkish art.

b. The Art of Painting and Sculpture
c. Decorative Arts
d. The Arts of the Book
e. Tiles, Ceramics and Glass
f. Woodwork and Metalwork

The languages of the 16th International Congress of Turkish Art will be Turkish and English. The presentations should not exceed 20 minutes in duration. We will try to have a simultaneous translation system, or the Turkish/English translations of the papers will be concurrently shown on the screen via a second projector. We kindly ask the applicants to send their abstracts (600-800 words) related to one of the above provided topics until October 3, 2018 to: icta16@hacettepe.edu.tr. The abstracts should be written both in Turkish and English, and submitted in PDF format in two copies, one with the name of the applicant, the other without (for blind review). In line with the previous congresses, the anonymous abstracts will be evaluated by both the International and National committee members. Those submitting abstracts will be informed of the evaluation results in late November, 2018. For the sake of a thorough and fair evaluation, the Committee urges the applicants to write their abstracts to cover the following list of headings:
a. Title
b. The content and aim of the paper
c. A brief overview of relevant literature
d. The main argument of the paper
e. A note providing the relevant heading (or subheading) of the above topic groups
f. Four keywords
All participants will be charged the registration fee of 500.00 Turkish Liras (free for students) once their papers have been accepted. Details about the payment methods will be given in the Second Circular.
Travel and accommodation costs will be paid by the participants. A list of recommended hotels and other accommodation venues, to be contacted directly by the participants, will be enclosed to the Second Circular. The applications should be sent
to icta16@hacettepe.edu.tr, to be forwarded to the members of the International Committee for evaluation.
We are looking forward to welcoming you all to the Congress in Ankara in October 2019

Thus, those who are presenting their papers in Turkish or English are kindly requested to send an English or Turkish translation of their presentation texts at least a month before the Congress so that we can work on them and make them ready to be displayed simultaneously during the presentations. We strongly recommend that non-English speakers have their English texts edited by a professional or a native speaker.
For accommodation, some hotels/hostels with special rate for the Congress are listed as an attachment. Beyond this, you will be able to find other hotels through searching online booking sites. Since the Beytepe Campus of Hacettepe University is not close to the city center, we will provide transportation to and from the Hacettepe subway station. Thus, if you plan to stay at the city center, please consider to choose a hotel with location near to a subway station. We will also organize transportation to and from a meeting point in the city center and Bilkent Hotel.
When you contact with the hotels offering a conference rate, make sure to mention your affiliation with the International Conference of Turkish Art at Hacettepe University in order to get this rate.
Young scholars up to the age of thirty-five can apply for financial support from the Max van Berchem Foundation. The Organizing Committee will select scholarship recipients from among the applications. Applications should be submitted to the Committee at the following e-mail address: icta16@hacettepe.edu.tr by May 30, 2019 using the form enclosed in this circular.

Dear Participants,
Good news! We are writing to let you know that we will be able to have simultaneous translation during the Conference and therefore we will not need your presentation texts a month earlier. Still, if you can send your text, or at least your draft, a week before the Conference, it will help the translators to familiarize themselves with your topic and terminology.
We are working on a temporary conference program, which will be soon available on the website soon: http://www.icta16.hacettepe.edu.tr
With our best regards,
